Dr Muffazal Lakdawala is the co-founder and Chief Surgeon at Digestive Health Institute – a centre for Bariatric, Metabolic and Gastro-Intestinal surgeries. He is also the Chairman, Institute of Minimal Access Surgical Sciences and Research Centre; and Section Chief, Division of Laparoscopic Oncology, at Saifee Hospital, Mumbai. Dr Lakdawala is the Honorary Surgeon to the Vice President of India. He was felicitated with the Best Surgeon in the World Award by The American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) in November 2019. In his career spanning 20+ years he has conducted more than 50,000 laparoscopic surgeries, in India and internationally. He is one of the few Indian surgeons to have demonstrated live surgery in almost every Asian country. As Professor Emeritus at the BYL Nair Hospital, Mumbai, he regularly mentors and trains young surgeons. He is passionate about philanthropy and undertakes regular charitable and pro bono medical camps. In his free time, he enjoys working out and playing football with his son.
