This year is about me. This year I will take care of me. This year I will love me more. This year I will put ‘me’ first. This year I will not worry about what others think about me (because what other people think about you is none of your business). This year I will fearlessly fulfil my needs first.

Don’t get me wrong, I am not telling you to be selfish or not do for others as you do, but to make sure to do for yourself first. So you don’t have to expect these things from somebody else. So you can feel full on your own self-love and self-care.

I am not afraid of honouring myself. Only when you are full, can you fill someone else’s cup. I’m full, I’m overflowing. My Cup Runs Over.

This year this is my mantra and it will be for life now. I have been so busy making sure everyone got what they wanted that I forgot to ask myself what I wanted. I’ve been so busy taking care of my loved ones that I forgot to care for me. I have been so busy making sure everyone was comfortable that I would forget about my own comfort.

And by the end of the day, I would feel empty or flushed or drained out. This happened because I didn’t realise how important it is to work on the self. You have to care for yourself.

Lessons from Oprah Winfrey

Oprah has taught me so many great lessons but this one is the most important. Fill yourself up and keep your cup full. Be full of yourself. Embrace yourself. Take care of yourself first. You have to. Don’t be afraid to put yourself first.

You will have so much to offer and give once you work on yourself.

Remember what they say when you’re on an airplane: “Please wear your own oxygen mask before you assist anyone else”. It’s the same way in life.

You have to be able to breathe yourself before you can help anyone else or you will feel like you’re giving more than receiving. And you might not have any oxygen if you try to put someone else’s mask first.

Is it selfish to put yourself first

Why is it that we forget to care for ourselves? Why is it considered a bad thing if you put yourself first? Why is it looked down upon if you make sure your needs are met?

You are the most important relationship you will ever have. You have to live with yourself every day. So why not nurture this soul every day and water yourself so you can grow?

Once you start blooming and growing and becoming the best version of yourself, you will feel light and freely flowing. You will be able to give your time, service, love according to what you want. You get to decide what you want to do.

If you want to say ‘no’ to something, you can. You are allowed to say ‘no’. And if people don’t like you, that is okay.

It’s your life and you have to drive it. You won’t worry about what other people think you should do. You will be the creator of your own destiny.

Sit still long enough to understand yourself. Sit still long enough to understand your calling. Sit still long enough to know your purpose.

Be still and know. I promise you, it’ll come. And you’ll know. Just remember you come first. Not just this year but from this year.
