Born and raised in the US, Mallika Tarkas Parekh moved to Mumbai in 2015. During her early twenties to date, she has been a devotee of Physique 57, the signature barre-based workout that blends the most effective elements of cardio, strength training and stretching to redefine the body from the very first class. When planning her move to India from New York City, Parekh, a health care professional with a double Masters in Medical Science and Public Health, was determined to launch Physique 57 in India, as she strongly believed in the health benefits of this method, specifically relevant to Indian bodies and bone structure. Parekh spent her career studying and researching medical science, helping hospitals in America implement best practice management principles and increase clinical efficiency. She therefore understands the importance of staying fit and healthy to prevent illness in later life. She quickly realized that Physique 57’s ground-breaking fitness method offers a high-intensity yet low-impact workout, via their innovative philosophy of Interval Overload training, precisely choreographed to produce maximum results in minimal time. This was especially helpful to Parekh – she had grown up playing sports which had resulted in numerous injuries; as a result, finding exercise she enjoyed but which didn’t hurt had been a challenge, until she was introduced to Physique 57. Finally, the pain was no longer in her bones and joints, but in her muscles, which were building and sculpting from this innovative and unique method. Dedicated to the science of preventative health care, Parekh also founded Valiance Healthcare in 2015 with the aim to offer India specialized, disease-focused healthcare. Parekh has since developed a holistic program via Valiance that combines nutrition, physical and mental fitness, and evidence-based medicine as a functional approach to healthcare. The company will focus especially on women’s health, orthopedic health and lifestyle diseases, and she is working towards establishing best-in-class medical infrastructure, both online and offline across the country over the next few years. Through her research on local healthcare for Valiance, Parekh realized the lack of emphasis on bone and muscle health in Indian culture and medicine. This was a disconcerting discovery, given that Indians have a lower bone density than most other populations worldwide. Parekh noticed that anti-aging trends in India focus on skincare regimens, cosmetic procedures, diet and internal cleansing but don’t always highlight the importance of healthy bone and muscle. She knew then, that Physique 57’s revolutionary fitness method would have a place in India. Parekh is thrilled to have brought this proven-effective workout program to the country of her roots, as a part of her continuing lifelong commitment to improving access to preventative and quality health care.
